davidhendersonHaving been involved in sales for over 20 years, I feel like I bring a certain perspective to  search marketing, local SEO & consulting.  When meeting with clients or delivering training I’m always thinking about what it means to the clients’ client.  Our focus is integrating within our clients organization to implement the best digital marketing solution for their situation.  Over the last eleven years I have become intimately involved in the entire search marketing space through personal and professional channels.

The path we have taken in growing Unwired Web Solutions, SocialDealz, The Find Network and Defiant Media has taken us down interesting and varied paths.  We look ahead to growing our client relationships.

Mediative (A Yellow Media Company)

From YPG I was asked to move over to their high end agency Mediative.  A full service digital agency, Mediative offers the best in thought leadership, user experience, conversion, analytics and reporting. The agency came about from combining 6-7 acquisitions that YPG made over a few years.  Mediative’s product set was targeted to the demographic of large corporations like Best Buy, Walmart P &G however they wanted to create a set of products that could be leveraged within the more extensive small/medium enterprise where YPG products didn’t fit.  These clients needed a more robust, customized solution for Adwords, Search Engine Optimization, Mobile/location based marketing and local SEO.  I worked with the team to create SEO & local seo then brought it to market with the Mediative and Diamond sales channel with Yellow Pages Group.

My work then transitioned into leading the sales efforts which ultimately led me to the decision to focus on building my own business.  I found the clients I was dealing with were more engaged with my expertise then the products we created and we were somewhat limited to the level of customization we could implement.

Yellow Media (Formerly Yellow Pages Group YPG)

I moved over to Yellow Media from Trader Corporation shortly after YPG completed the sale of Trader to Apex Corporation.  My initial task at Yellow Media was to work with a team that was creating a training program to help sales management better understand digital media and the opportunity of digital marketing for small to medium sized businesses in Canada. One of the issues YPG was having involved the transition from a print media company to a digital media one.  Senior levels of sales management had literally hundreds of years of combined print media sales experience but did truly have a grasp on the digital space, their competition or what the size of the opportunity actually was.  My first year was spent developing and delivering the training curriculum.  While working on the training I also spent time at the “C” & “EVP” level strategizing around current digital products and services.  I was tasked with providing input from a subject matter expert to hold the product development team accountable to build the best products for their clients.

Trader Corporation

At Trader Corporation I was deeply involved with the team that created their Dealer Smart Solutions website product by working with the product development team on the product itself & then even more intimately through creating & delivering the entire search engine optimization in Canada, website development, search engine marketing and online marketing training programs to every sales representative across the country.  I delivered sales presentations to over 250 of the most valued Trader clients which gave me the opportunity to really hone my Objection handling & sales skills.

Not only have I been involved in building & delivering training on search engine optimization I have also worked with product development to rebuild the entire SEO product offered at Trader Corporation, created a team of Online Experts across the country, this team of 9 Search Engine, Social Media experts assists the sales organization in expanding their book of business with automotive clients across Canada.Previous to building working with the Dealer Smart Solutions & Online Sales Consultants teams I was managing a team of sales professionals in Southern Ontario.

Research in Motion

I spent years at RIM as a Regional Sales Manager assisting T-Mobile in the US Government space, helping promote & sell Blackberry to clients such as The World Bank, Department of Defense & US Senate.  I also spent much time involved with deployments within Fortune 100 companies & law firms.

clearNET & Telus

I have been involved in sales leadership at Telecom companies for many years with experience at clearNET & Telus, it was here that I gained valuable experience in sales coaching & mentoring.  I believe that within everyone is the ability to go out there & find the business you want or need to be successful.  However without practice or implementing a basic strategy and then being consistent with it people tend to get frustrated.  Planning & coaching has always been something I’m passionate about.

Other Experience

Over the last 20+ years I’ve been involved with many companies in multiple sales, marketing, coaching & sales leadership capacities.  I’ve worked in the financial space at Avco Financial Services, National Trust & Bank of Montreal.  In manufacturing on the marketing & general labour side at Sklar Pepplar, Thackery Roofing.  In sales & sales management I’ve been a sales rep at Yellow Pages Group, Cyber Sudbury, clearNET & Telus.  I’ve also held various Sales Management, Sales Director, Regional Sales Manager & National Sales Director roles at clearNET, Telus, Research In Motion, Trader Corporation, 411.ca & Canon Canada.

During the last 15 years I’ve delivered training or taught at both Cambrian College in Sudbury Ontario & Conestoga College in Kitchener as well as speaking engagements with various Chambers of Commerce & small business organizations.
